The BF-209 allows reproducible processing of longer tubes for the first time. This enables cost-effective production of large quantities of different balloons. A number of balloons are produced from one tube in a continuous process. After blowing the balloon, the balloon is automatically unloaded and at the same time a new tube piece is drawn into the mold. This process can be repeated up to a hundred times after a one-off setting. The length of the chain is essentially defined by the balloon process, and is generally in the region of 4-100 balloons per tube.


The mold of the BF-209 is heated by means of infrared heating, which enables quick and precisely reproducible heating of the balloon mold. The infrared heating of the BF-209 is arranged radially around the balloon mold, enabling temperatures up to 300°C.

 

The useful length of the balloon mold can be extended in 25 mm intervals, so that balloons with an overall length of up to 60 mm and a diameter of up to 50 mm can be manufactured as standard, without any modification to the balloon forming machine. The balloon mold of the BF-209 can be exchanged quickly and easily at any time. Balloon molds made from different materials such as glass, metal and plastic can be used. This allows specific utilization of the advantages of the respective balloon molds and guarantees a high level of flexibility in the balloon process with just one machine, depending on the relevant requirements.


Material is drawn out of the balloon cones during the process by the two individually controlled, programmable stretching units; this results in a smaller wall thickness and additional tapering of the balloon sleeves. In addition, the BF-209 has a long stretching unit, which enables automatic loading and unloading of the balloons. It is thus possible to produce a number of balloons in a continuous process without an operator.


The software complies with the requirements of EN 13485 and the FDA and is adapted to the requirements of medical technology production. Program management, personnel management, a logbook and history are therefore already integrated into the program.

Tube Extending Device "GEMINI"

Gemini

The two axes on the GEMINI enable a multitude of different applications. E.g. two-sided tapering of tubes for the manufacture of large balloons with reduced necks. Stretching of long tips and forming of graduated catheters are also possible.

The GEMINI is controlled by means of the supplied software, which enables virtual representation of the executed process. This means that complex processes can be implemented quickly and easily. The tube is manually inserted and held by a quick-acting clamp fixture, which can be used over a large diameter range. 

 

The infrared heating enables an adjustable constant energy transfer, which heats the tube equally both inside and out; this results in uniform stretching of the molecules in the tube, so that burning of the tube is excluded. The result is uniform stretching over the complete tube diameter.

 


The housing of the GEMINI has been specially designed for use in clean rooms. The use of compressed air has been dispensed with, and the machine has been largely encapsulated. The stainless steel surfaces of the housing are easy to clean.

The IR5 can be used to form plastic tips from 0.5 – 7.0 mm diameter. The IR5 can also be used for welding catheter shafts and tips of balloon catheters.

The IR5 has been developed for forming plastic tips with a diameter of 0.5-7 mm. Optimum adaptation to your production can be achieved by quickly and simply changing between different molds, such as glass, metal and plastic molds. The IR5 enables forming of open and closed tips. In addition, the IR5 is an ideal welding machine for catheter shafts and tips of balloon catheters.

 

The IR5 is loaded manually. The tube is inserted into the slide. The tube is clamped and the freely programmable sequence is started by pressing the start key. The following parameters can be entered: Power, start position, tip length, speed and cooling temperature. The process can also be adapted to new requirements in the machine program.

 

The mold is heated by 4 radially arranged IR emitters. It is thus possible to change the mold without the need for readjustment. The mold is exchanged together with the complete mold holder. The time taken is typically << 5 min. The IR sensor is recommended if the temperature can be measured at the tip of the mold (if no through-loading is necessary).
